Frankly, from reading the pros and cons on YorkieTalk for 2 and 1/2 years, there are valid arguments for both boys and girls. I am partial to boys and in fact have never had a girl dog. My best friend is partial to girl dogs (but has a boy Doxie right now who is giving her a run for her money and who is a hoot!). I ADORE my boy, but if I were to get him a playmate, I think I would got for a girl. I just know that my boy is very affectionate -- but I think girls can be equally so. Each one is an individual.
