There are not many signs this early in a pregnancy that can be seen...Swollen vulva, swollen teats, can all be symptoms of pregnancy but also of a false pregnancy...

Palpation can be preformed around the 26th day of pregnancy but no later than the 30th day...After the 30th day fluid starts to build up making palpation more difficult....By the 5th or 6th week of pregnancy you will start to notice her abdomen spreading out...

Do not overfeed her...Exercise her daily...A Mom to be that is not fat and is in good body shape delivers much easier...

As far as your mom being only 4.4 pounds, I prefer to see them larger...I like to see them in the 5-7 pound range so if they have any complications it is easier to treat and less of a strain on mom...

Dad does not determine the birth weight of the puppies at all...It is like a gold fish in a bowl...only grows as big as the bowl...put it in a pond and it grows much larger...Same for a pup in a uterus...

Please take the time to educate yourself and read, read, read so you are prepared for the birth of puppies if need be....
