My buddy slept with me for the first year that we had him.
Then he started waking me up with his tossing, turning, kicking, and rearanging the covers. He can not jump off my bed so I was constantly putting him down and putting back into bed. I work 8a.m. - 2:30 and get up at 5:30a.m., so that was not working for me! I now have to sleep with my door closed and he sleeps in his own bed.
..or sometime at my door. I realized that while I am at work he sleeps all day. and then at bed time a short nap refreshed him and he just couldnt sleep. When he was smaller he required more sleep so it was not a problem sleeping all night. He does not mind being in his own bed. He also gets up to check on my teenage daughter. She tells me he will come in there throughout the night jump on her bed sit with her for awhile then go on his way. Even on weekends when I am at home he naps all day long. I feel bad about moving around in the house because he wants to be in the same room with me but he is so sleepy he will follow me room to room and curl up to sleep...then around 2:30 HE IS READY TO PLAY! lol...
