I just wanted to say that I got my Westie when my twin daughters were 1 1/2 years old. Yikes! He was awesome, and so were my daughters (with the pup). I would have not been so happy, tho' if I had chosen a Yorkie instead of a Westie, as I have had such a time house training my Trixie. It would have been nuts with the little babies in the house. Some dogs are easy to house train, and some are not.

I do understand why you want to introduce a puppy into the house at this point in your life. I did to. I think it was because as a Mom, you "give, give, give" and a dog returns the favor.

IMO It will be an easier time for you if you get a bit larger dog, either a large Yorkie, or a Westie, or other 20 lb (or so) plus breed.
