I am working with the breeder to not put this little girl on an airplane and try to find her a good home here in S. California.
The family that purchased her raise large dogs and wanted an inside dog. The family did not fully realize that these little breeds have totally different needs than the bigger breeds. They realized that they could not meet the needs of a little house dog and asked the breeder (and me) to assist them in finding her the "right" home.
She is here with me now. She weights at 7 months, 6.5#. She has a silky coat and really nice coloration. She is up to date on her shots but has never been micro-chipped. I will be taking care of that tomorrow. It took her about 15 minutes to settle in with Team Furry. The family had a 6 year old and 8 year old children, so she is accustomed to children.
I will post pictures tomorrow.
My first concern for this little girl is that the home she goes to will be her forever home and that her furparents references' check out.
I applaud this family that made a choice and said--we made a mistake--and followed the rules of their contract and contacted their breeder. This story will have a happy ending and I appreciate any help or referrals the Biewer community wants to offer. |
I agree with you on the family making the right choice for this puppy. Hopefully you can have a discussion with this breeder on how critical it is to make the right placement for these wonderful dogs. Placing one of these dogs into a home that is already raising large dogs and children under 14 (this is just my opinion - but also the opinion of many reputable yorkie rescue's) ends up in these kind of results to many times. I hope you take some time to observe if she has any behavioral problems (did the family tell you why they were giving her up?) and I would also take her back to your vet to make sure she doesn't have any health problems and that she was properly taken care of. I am also going to assume she is already spayed or you will be spaying her as this is what rescue does. Just taking dogs and then rehoming them with out some of these issues addressed is not in the best interest of the dogs. I would not consider this rescue but someone just cleaning up a breeders bad placement and should not be placed in this section (actually the rules state the cost of rehoming/rescue can only be $300 or less for this section - which I personally think is a little low). Breeders have a hugh responsibility with the Biewers to make the perfect match for these dogs and while I realize it doesn't always work out it is still the breeders responsibility to protect this breed. Statistically, once a dog has been rehomed it stands a bigger chance of being rehomed again unless you do everything in your power to make the right decision for the dog.
