You are absolutely right.

Just because a dog is AKC registered does not automatically make it a better quality representation of the breed, nor does it automatically mean the breeder is ethical and doing what is best for the dogs they have. You can get good and bad breeders and dogs with ANY registry--you can't base your decision and judgement off the kennel club affiliation alone.
Yes, there are many people who choose to use the lesser respected registries because they have something to hide or because they have AKC sanctions against them, but that doesnt neccessarily apply to EVERYONE who opts to breed outside of AKC. It's not fair or accurate to automatically assume that someone is using an alternate registry because they have done something wrong or because they have lost their AKC rights.
