I've always had our carpets professionally cleaned, but now that we are getting wood floors and just have carpet in three of the four bedrooms I think I will just invest in a steam cleaner and do it myself whenever needed, which wouldn't be very often at all! Thank you for the good tip. I will check with the Consumer's guide to see what they recommend too.
