Awe, that's so sad. I know it's the way of the wild and wild animals have to east to, but it would break my heart to have to hear that, I'd probably wake my hubby and make him run out into the woods to help me try and save something. I wouldn't leave your furbabies out at all by themselves, to many things can happen to them.
