I didn't use to clean my dog's paws off either, til I saw sand in the bed
. We have so much sand around here, and they both run thru it to get to the lawn (why go across the patio and avoid the sand at the side of it
?)....so now, I keep a box of fragrancefree, alcohol free wipes in my nightstand so they can be wiped off. I also have a throw at the end of the bed in case they go out in the middle of the night and I'm too asleep to wipe them off. It helps a lot.
