Dogs mark to claim their territory and advertise their presence, so I'd say Carter is claiming you as his very own. My male Bichon, Cosmo, is completely house trained, but I can't let him into the bedroom my granddaughter or son use when either of them visit over night. He will mark the bed, probably the pillow. I think he's just saying how glad he is to have them at our house and he wants to let them know they belong to him. It's his version of a hug.
