You are right. A lot of backyard breeders and pet stores charge more for their puppies than reputable show breeders. But think about the costs that are put into those puppies...costs to buy, raise, and possibly show mom and dad, cost of raising puppies, cost of all the health screening that should be done, vaccinations, checkups, etc. etc. It's not cheap to breed the right way. If puppies are too cheaply priced, I'd suspect health screening hadn't been done, among other things. Puppies just aren't cheap...I hope when someone is deciding on their "price range" that they factor in all the initial vet trips for check-ups and vaccinations, cost of spay/neuter, and cost of teeth extractions, and I hope they leave themselves some room for potential emergencies.
