I just called the vet to make appointments for Jordan, our golden retriever, 6 months and Lexie, my yorkie, 7 months to be spayed. They said no problem with Jordan, but they are very hesitant to do Lexie because she's between 4 and 6 pounds. I asked if they use isofluorane (sp?) for the anestesia and he said it's all they used. He compared it to operating on a preemie baby. With a 40 lb. dog there is margin for error, blood loss, etc. but with a 5 pounder if something happens there's nothing that can be done.
What am I supposed to do? I DEFINITELY don't want to breed and I don't want her to get cancer because she wasn't spayed. I'm just so upset because I don't want to lose my baby in surgery! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I want to take care of this before she goes into her first heat!
