Marlee - I just wrote a similar paper for my similarly titled class last semester. I'll try to help:

1. Are there large amount of minority groups in your local community? Yes, more than half. We also have a lot of cops and firemen and other public service people in my 'hood. Mostly Latino. I'm talking about my neighborhood - not Chicago as a whole.

2. Do you feel there are problems with stereotyping, discrimination and racism that affect the community in which you live? No. Not at all. If a black person is on one of our buses, I am a little surprised to see them - just because there aren't many in my neighborhood.

3. Do you feel that minority group interest such as politics, jobs and healthcare are represented fairly in your community?
Yes, definitely.

4. Are there issues relative to gender in your community?
No, not at all.

5. Do you feel women are treated as equally as men in your community?
Yes, they'd better be or there would be major lawsuits and uproar.

6. Does the local media represent people like you, and the prominent minority groups? (Do they look like you?)
The media is stupid. I also wrote a paper about this. The local news does a good job, but entertainment television sucks. Stereotypes run rampant.

7. How do leaders in your community treat people like you? How do they treat others? Is there and apparent lack of interest from one group to the next?
They treat me very well. They treat others well (as far as I can see). No lack of interest. Many are Latinos themselves and if they're, not, they want Latinos to vote for them.

8. How does the community treat you, or people of your race and gender? How do they treat others of different race and or gender?
Every answer would be "well". or "like they want to be treated". Racism isn't alive here at all.

9. If you could solve any inequities in your community, what would you change, how and why?
More women in the Chicago City Council. Just to equal it up.
