Brandi,
Here are my repsonses.. i did the best as I could as i really don't follow my local news, politics, etc.. I hope i helped.. Good luck with your paper and let us know how you do.
1. Are there large amount of minority groups in your local community? YES
2. Do you feel there are problems with stereotyping, discrimination and racism that affect the community in which you live? No... My town is very diverse and it seems that there really isn't too much discrimination and racism (i mean I am sure there is some but none to my knowledge)
3. Do you feel that minority group interest such as politics, jobs and healthcare are represented fairly in your community? I honestly can't answer this question due to my lack of knowledge
4. Are there issues relative to gender in your community? Not that I am aware of.. I have noticed lately, there seems to be alot of business owners in my town who are female!
5. Do you feel women are treated as equally as men in your community? Yes... As i stated in the previous question.. We also have women town counselors, etc
6. Does the local media represent people like you, and the prominent minority groups? (Do they look like you?) Not sure I follow this question.. The stories in our papers always seem to talk about anything that is going around in town whether its minority groups, majority groups, etc
7. How do leaders in your community treat people like you? How do they treat others? Is there and apparent lack of interest from one group to the next? Once again, I think its pretty fair but i am not familiar with things like that.. i know they have cheaper camps for minority kids during the summer (in fact I used to work at one)
8. How does the community treat you, or people of your race and gender? How do they treat others of different race and or gender? Seems to be fair and equal although i am sure there are issues i am not awesome of
9. If you could solve any inequities in your community, what would you change, how and why wow, this is a tough question... i need to think about this one for a while and i'll get back to you
Overall, I have been so lucky to have grown up in my town because of how diverse it is... There are towns in the surrounding areas that have NO minority population or very few.. It has done wonders for me and made into the person i am today
