Two out of my 3 dogs have their tails and both have had injuries to their tails (Maltese and Chihuahua). Codie's tail is broken in the middle and it can't be fixed. Cali's tail was also injured -- not broken but serious swelling due to her falling off my leg (I was sitting on the floor) and she fell on her tail the "wrong" way. Also, when I brought Codie to the vet for him to examine his tail, he said he gets a lot of small dogs in with broken tails. I didn't ask him this outright -- he said it conversationally.

Also, one of my Chihauhua's littermates had to have her tail docked because it was so badly broken.
