My vets said it depends upon growth patterns and size of puppy. When Samson was 6 months (7 lbs.) both of his vets said that I should start transitioning to adult food - that he went thru the majority of his growth spurts and didn't need the puppy food too much longer. So now at over 7 months I'm only mixing in a tablespoon (wet) of puppy food a couple of times a week and will stop when I've finished the last can.
