I wanted mine pad trained. It's so much easier when you travel, and on really cold or rainy days & nights and also when you can't always take them with you. They will potty outside as well. I think it's just instinct for them to do it outside. I never "trained" them to potty outside, but they do. Whenever I take them outside for a potty break I alway's say "lets go potty" and then open the door. If I don't take them out because I'm not home or it's raining, they automatically go on the pads. Works perfectly for us.
