i always get their nails "quick clipped" when they are under for any reason. They are also called show clip and are almost back to the skin. These can only be done when they are out. It will give you a fresh start on their nails as that vein will retreat and you can again keep them very short. Do no try to do this yourself!!
I just had Candy spayed and got her nails quick clipped. She doesn't have any nails right now and it is wonderful. I'll just keep them clipped once a month so that they don't get out long again.
