I have one question. My Yorkie has thick hair and floppy ears. Do you have any recommendation for how to trim her ears? Do you cut them straight across or taper them? I can never seem to get them straight.

Thanks!

Jean,
Thick hair and floppy ears can be managed in several ways. Some people like to trim the ear quite short, following the natural shape of the ear and scissor trimming about 1/8th of an inch around the outside edge of the ear leather. This makes a very cute puppy style of an ear. It also reduces the matting behind the ears that comes with a thicker or cottony coat.
You could also trim them straight across and it is a cute look too. It all depends on your taste...and remember of you do a trim that you do not like, it will grow out and you can try something different the next time.
Feel free to ask me anything about grooming, I am always happy to help.
