This is only my opinion, but I do NOT at all find this statement profound. In fact, I would find a statement in complete contrast to that of Thomas' as 'profound'. I would say that the very minute that I found out I was pregnant, my whole existence changed...an instant definition of who I was, who I wanted to be, who I NEEDED to be. So, yes, I would definitely say that I was defined by my pregnancy. I was a mom and to be defined as such was a dream for me! Does this mean that we no longer have our own aspirations and desires, no way, but it does mean that our lives take on a new meaning....of course!

This is just my take on his statement.
