I think the most expensive factor of owning a dog, not just Yorkies are vet bill and food (if you want to feed good food). I bought my Yorkie for $700which is a good price to many but in addition to that in the first month I spent about $800 more for vet check-ups, vaccines, diarrhea, food, grooming, toys etc. I think if you have a saving of about $1000 on top of your puppy price, you should be okay unless it is an emergency.
Then from month to month, it is the food that is most expensive for mine. I feed him Evangers and Cannidae plus homecooked chicken, salmon etc costs about $80 a month in total. For grooming, I do my own grooming except for the cutting nails part so you just have to start out with a good clipper and a good video of how to groom. Shampoo and fur upkeep isn't so bad for me as I use Burgham senior shampoo, its not very expensive, it is very good and it lasts a long time for just one dog and I have a bottle of Emu Oil which is totally good for his keeping his fur soft and skin moisturized and that don't cost a lot and lasts forever.
As for clothes, I think the basics that you need is a winter jacket if it gets cold where you stay and a few pajamas for the cold nights and maybe a tee or two. Won't cost a lot depending on where you buy them, maybe about $100 max for all. If you have the time and skill to make your own bed and clothes, even better. I made 2 beds for mine and 3 pieces of clothing. Whatever decision you make, good luck to you. I think if anything, you just have to worry most about vet care and good food. All others can be managed with good planning.
Edit: Just saw your update. I am so sorry. I hope someday you will get your own Yorkie. I do agree they do need a lot of attention on top of the expenses especially the sucky ones like mine is. Puppy sitter is another expense as well. I have spent hundreds just on that alone.
