I can attest for the cost here. Since June 2007 we ran into lots of issues. Now we are seeing a specialist. LAst weeks visit for my two girls it was $1054.00. zI was definitely weak in the knees when they gave us our total when we checked out.
We did complete blood work up on both and urinalysis on both with UPC check with the urine and 1 of my girls had to have a bile acid test.
the comp blood work up was $265.00- urinalyis was $57.00 added upc for $113.50 vet visit was $53.00 bile acid test was $117.00 med waste charge of 9.45. that was for one dog $615.00! same thing for my other yorkie but minus the bat. $440.00- so yes indeed it does add up!!!
We keep a budget- so I know exactly what we had to spend-
2007 total was $5423.00 (this also inc food and meds) and so far this year $1765.00. Ain't HAPPY about this at all. But who knew? and is it worth it??? for my little angels... YES!!!
we are hoping things will get resolved and we will be on our way to spending LESS on vet bills and enjoying MORE of our healthy happy dogs. A specialist -YES- costs a lot! Unfortunately for us - we had a vet who was TEST HAPPY! and she took us for a nice ride. She is not our vet anymore!
We only see the specialist now for everything. Spend lots yeah- but less in the end bc they know what to test for. it was a BIG learning experience for us. :-(
When you own a yorkie you also need a great vet. especially experienced with the small breed. It makes me nervous because they are 10 and 9 yrs and things from this point are only going to progress. As they age more problems can arise and it really gets expensive quick. I do not think i will ever own another yorkie WITHOUT pet insurance that's for sure.
