My “neo natal” unit in a swimming pool:

This is what I keep always in a box with a sealed lid
(as I may get a call in the night to help whelp)

Heating Pad
Shredded paper
Dew Claw Removal Tool (which is generally my fingernail if they are loose)
Feeding Tubes
Tubes of Calsorb
Tube of nutri cal
Suction bulb (for noses and mouth)
Lots of 4 x 4 gauze pads
Sterilized hemostats and Sharp scissors
Dental floss
Resparitory enhancer
MY VETs CELL # (no kidding, I really keep it in the box so I know where to find it)

As for a Whelping Box, I like a very small toddler swimming pool filled with old sheets covered with various layers of puppy pads. (I remove soiled pads as needed). My whelping box is always filled with what I need, my “neonatal unit in a box”, covered with plastic and stored…. Patience and prayer, well that you cant buy…..

As suggested, "Puppy Intensive Care," "Canine Reproduction and Whelping" and “Practical Genetics for Dog Breeders”
