My puppy being tested for a liver shunt Haven't posted in awhile, been away and battling strep throat right now. Who gets strep in AUGUST?!! Anyway, I took Indy to the vet yesterday to get his stitches out and to have her look at his eyes. I posted a couple weeks ago about Indy having squinty eyes. At first we thought it was allergies, but he doesn't itch, there's no discharge, and they're not red. It was happening on and off for a week but in the last week it seems that he's squinty all the time. I had him to the vet 2 times to have it checked, but when I would get there he would be fine. Yesterday she got to see the squint! She says that she doesn't think there's an irritation because when she would pry his eyes apart he would slowly roll them down like he was sleeping. He was kinda quiet while he was there, but he isn't quiet like that when he's home!! She was asking me questions about his behavior, eating, etc., but none of them seemed to fit him. She did a full blood test and just called me to say that everything is fine there, but she wants me to bring him back to do the fasting bile salts test, and then they feed him and test it again in 2 hours. Being the neurotic person I am, I came home yesterday and obsessed on the internet looking for ANYTHING on liver shunts. I feel I have a decent knowledge on them now, and Indy doesn't have any of the clinical signs for this, but I feel the need to rule it out by this fasting test. He eats like a pig, he's 6mos old and weighs 9lbs(I call him my giant yorkie!), he plays hard and rough with my other dogs to the point where I have to separate them sometimes, when he sleeps he isn't unresponsive, he hears any little movement of me or the other dogs, I don't know. I even looked up narcolepsy in dogs (they really do get that!) but he doesn't fit that either. Any advice you guys have would be appreciated. |
