The problem with this is that all it would take is a minor flaw in the "seal" to allow the steam to penetrate, for example a scratch on the surface. Wood expands and contracts all the time, but slowly, steaming would call for rapid expansions of the wood fibers. I wouldn't do it. It's not that hard to do it the right way. |
