Thats where we always vacation since its only an hour away!
Rental houses can be pretty affordable as long as its not near the 4th of July or labor day. If you find those cost to much, you can find hotels in savannah and the drive to the beach is only15mins. LOTS of interesting stuff in and around Savannah- Ft Pulaski, the Squares, all the Savannah Monuments and tours, ghost tours, carriage rides, etc.
