Mine did not cry, I am amazed at my good fortune. Lacey was so small, though, I arranged her kennel in a way that I could block a space for her to get to her pee pee pad and food/water but still get back into her kennel without getting loose in the house. I also put a favorite, soft/fuzzy toy, a warm blanket in their kennel as well. I think it helps, too, to touch them often, their paws, face, ears and talk softly when you handle them. My yorkie book gave that advice and now they let me do just about any to them at bath, brushing, teeth brushing, etc. Or, I was just darned lucky.
