Every single breeder worldwide at one time knew absolutely nothing about breeding. Every breeder gained knowledge and experience in a multitude of ways and over a period of time - some had mentors, some learned through the school of hard knocks, some learned through reading books, taking classes, etc. but everyone had to learn.
I agree that it is very frustrating to have the same questions asked over and over again - many members DO NOT know how to do a search - many are barely computer literate. So even in that area, it would be a far better thing to educate -- maybe a good solution would be to compile a list of links to basic questions that have been asked and when someone needs information to provide that list of links. |
Speaking completely out of turn here, but a solution I've often wondered about might be to have our experienced (albeit frustrated) YT breeders save some of their own general thoughts, opinions, experiences, or links to their personal threads - for those notorious most frequently asked questions - into a word document from which they could easily copy and paste when the dreaded "same ol' question" comes around.
In a forum, I would think that you would "expect" the same questions to be asked over and over and over and over as new people join. I agree the "search" function is a logical first step, but unfortinately, NOWHERE on line do I see people searching FAQ's faithfully before asking a question. People, by nature, want a personal answer or think their situation is unique. You could preface your "paste" with a personal message. Quick and less frustrating for you. I'm no breeder and thus have no questions, but I would not be offended by an occasional canned answer with a personal intro. ... really no different than the search function. Just a thought.
