The book The Joy of Breeding Your Own Show Dog by Anne Searne discusses this in her book. She's a yorkie breeder I won't whelp a litter without this book
So many things seemed like an emergency to me when we got our first Yorkie. I can't count the trips we made to the vet over 'little things'. These issues weren't about whelping (we weren't breeding at that time). It's just that these babies sure can put the worry on you LOL. The thing is, these 'little things' can, in many cases, get serious quickly if you don't know what to do. That's what makes forums such as this so valuable; there's a wealth of info and experience here. Like you, I consider The Joy of Breeding Your Own Show Dog, along with The Complete Yorkshire Terrier, must-have books.
