It's a matter of culture and what you are used to - I would NEVER dress my girls in clothes, people would be appauled by it and find me weird and they would laugh at me.
I would never tail dock ANY dog as I see no good reason for it.
And I would NEVER pierce my dogs ears!
But I still think it comes under the same category - how you like your dog to look - and we have all different values. I have
my ears pierced and apart from a short pain which can not be as bad as being spayed, tail docked or the like, I have had no trouble with it. So why not pierce your dogs ears if that's your fancy?!
I bet looking at it from this point of view: A culture where you find it ok to dress your dog, give it jewelry on and give it a bath twice a week, it could quickly get ok to pierce the ears...
