He was born in a puppymill in Arkansas and was sold to Hunte Corp. who sent him via semitruck to california. Pepper had a neurological illness that ended in me having to put him to sleep at the rip old age of 3 1/2 years. We were lucky because the vet (who was on the petstores payroll) said we would be lucky if he made it to his first birthday! For a good part of the day at the end he couldn't stand, walk, sit, eat, drink or use the bathroom without me holding him up. He vomited every single day and coughed horribly when he drank water. When I reported his illness to the petstore they sprang into action...they got a replacement puppy because he was sick AND they got another puppy because they had SOLD him to me. When I contacted Hunte they didn't respond at all. When I finally found his "breeder" I got "gee sorry for your loss". We originally took Pepper back to the store (we had just lost our yorkie of 8 years earlier that month and I didn't think I could deal with another sick baby so soon) but after a few days (when we found out he was in a tiny cage in a back room by himself and he wasn't even getting the medicine WE paid for) we went and bought him back! So because I bought 1 puppy from the petstore 2 MORE were there taking his place. I feel so much guilt about that. I saved one just to double the suffering. NO ONE cared what he and we were going through. We finally got THAT petstore shut down. But his breeder is still breeding and Hunte is still shipping and peoples hearts are still being broken and the poor puppies and kitties are still suffering! Sadly, I believe the only way to stop puppy mills is to shut down every single petstore. Yes, that means some of these puppies will suffer. But I don't know that they will suffer as much as they will if we don't find a way to stop the puppymills now! Here is a link to Pepper on the HSUS Survivor Page: http://www.stoppuppymills.org/survivor_stories.html He is puppy number 2. I miss him so very much and I hurt so deeply everytime I hear about another puppy suffering. Pepper's illness Cerebellar Abiotropy was caused by greed and nothing else. On the day I had him put to sleep the Vet told me they now believe it is caused by inbreeding....it didn't have to happen.
I am so sorry Bell and you are having to deal with this. I want to give you HUGE props for standing by her and getting her the help she needs! I hope you kick the arse of the petstore owner!!! I am so glad she is doing so well and I will be praying that when her tests are done they will show that she is perfect in everyway!
Sorry to be so long winded here. I truly hope I didn't offend anyone...that is never my intention. Just so you know....a very good friend who I met on these boards is a yorkie breeder of good repute...she knew Pepper through the board and she loved him...she sent me Miss Pep C as a gift. I almost turned her down cold because I was so afraid of living through that hell again but in the end I accepted her and she is helping to heal my heart. LOL if I ever learn how to post pictures I will show you her beautiful face! (going to give it a try) She is now 6 1/2 months old and full of all of the wonderful mischief that yorkies are known for. |
