Cry Low albumin...

I wanted to share my story...
Oddly enough my yorkie's name is Chewbaka a.k.a Chewy and his ordeal started in November '07. I took him for his routine check up and the vet found that he had an albumin level of .5! He also said it was a miracle that Chewy was "acting normal." The vet referred me to a specialist and she then did a plasma transfusion, which he had to spend the night at the clinic and an endoscopy the next day. She put Chewy on a series of medications including a steriod.

It seemed like a Christmas miracle... Chewy was doing sooooo much better. He stopped vomitting, his tummy bloat went away, his stools were hardening, and best of all his albumin went up to 1.5!

Sadly the new year did not start on a good note for us, on a recheck visit a month later, his albumin went back down to .8! I decided that I was not going to give on Chewy...I decided to try something drastically different because the more I read up on his condition, I found that the steriods are toxins for his kidneys which is why Chewy had a high BUN of 77!!!!

I did some research and found one of the best holistic vets where I live and took him. He was given acunpucture, aquapuncture, and natural herbal supplemnets. He was doing awesome... his albumin went up to 2.0 and his BUN was high but not dangerously high. His stools were normal and no vomitting. Plus he was loving his new diet, (at new vet's suggustion) Chewy was now eating all organic foods including salmon, sardines, tofu, chicken, beef liver, kale, spinach etc...

But sadly yesterday, his tummy became bloated again so I suspected the worst, and I was right...Chewy is getting sick again. His albumin was .5!!!! I have an appointment this afternoon with his holistic vet. I have been crying all night about what else I could possible do for my baby...
