Of the few litters I have had, my dog never liked being in the box until after she delivered one or 2. My yellow lab had her first baby outside, squatting because she thought she had to poop and was in a complete panick in the house. She had him right into my hand, because I knew the baby was coming. Thank God too, because the belly of the baby was stuck to her behind because the cord was SO short. I had to cut and tie it. She had the rest in her box. That was her only litter. The other litters I have had, the dogs have been similar. Even with laboring, I think they just want to be in the most comfortable and familiar place possible, which is usually your bed or their bed.
