If cleaning the heads gently with rubbing alcohol isn't working - then it's the probably clogged printer heads and that can run some $$ - They can send you a new printerhead 'set' or if you can try to buy individual. With the last HP I had - it was a whole printer head and would have run about 200 - so I bought a new printer and love it.

and yes it seems to be an HP issue - My canon that I've had over a year and 1/2 hasn't once given me problems (knock on wood)
