I think any quality conditioner diluted down works well. I like to look at the ingredients in the conditioner first to make sure it doesn't have too much oil it as this is what I previously found to leave that residue.

I use a natrual bristle brush, a slicker brush, and a flea comb for the real thin areas and around the eyes, etc.

I have found that if Schatzie's coat is very clean and already brushed out at night I gently brush her "dry" but start at the bottom of the coat. Every morning is when I spray a conditioner/water mix on her.
