I used to take Peanut with me anywhere that I could and if I was going to run into a store for only a few minutes, I would take him then too.
BUT, only if it wasn't too hot or too cold. He LOVED going bye bye. Sometimes we would just take him for rides.
I believe the JOY he got out of going bye bye with Mama and or Daddy, far outweighed the risk we took. I've never heard of any dogs being stolen from cars here and my car is almost impossible to break into. The car alarm would have went off and hopefully scared them away. That's not to say that something bad couldn't have happened. The clerks at my grocery, Dollar General and Walgreens all knew Peanut
and would go outside to say "hi" to him.
Now that Peanut is gone, I'm glad that he got to go with me so much. I know he loved it.
If anyone would have told me I didn't deserve him back if he were stolen...
