I didn't used to wash their dishes after ever meal and found that Tahoe and Johnny Cash kept getting bacterial infections and bad diarrhea. Eventually it occurred to me that it might be caused by dirty dishes. I haven't had a problem with the bacterial infections since I started washing the dishes after every meal. I got tired of washing every dish twice a day so now (and no this isn't very green) I feed them in disposable dishes and throw them away after every meal.
