My groomer usually keeps Max about 4 hours...I don't like that, but it's a shop and they're really busy and they do a great job. I think they must have some sort of system b/c I can't see why he needs to be there so early when he won't be done til so late....but.....they really do such a good job and he doesn't seem stressed (just abundantly glad to see me) or anything, so I'm sticking with them. Also, they'll call me if he's done sooner if I want to pick him up (or later than they expected, which only has happened once). As long as you know they're being taken good care of (which I don't feel with practically anyone) you just have to judge what's going on at the groomer's and why they're there for so long. 6 hours would be unacceptable, I have to say.

Maybe if you ask WHY it takes so long and make it clear that you don't want to leave your dog that long, the groomer would make some adjustments. I mean, if she/he does a good job.....some people I'm sure don't mind if it takes all day. Or maybe (if you have the space and appropriate area) you could have them come to your house to do it. I know some groomers do that sort of thing if it's cost-effective for them.
