I know several people who use ottomans the same way. I have also seen those children's chairs...like big circles...can't think of the name right now. Those would work as well.
My husband built some stairs for our bed that are really great, but it took him and my son almost a full day to figure out how to build them. Ours are like a stairwell....oh man, tough to describe! lol!
