You can either have your pup shipped via cargo or vip like some airlines like northwest and southwest offer. The cargo goes by weight (not my idea of shipping if you have to) and the vip they get special treatment but it runs about $300. That is what I paid to ship Zoey in when she came from MO. If you aren't locked into your ticket I would say it would be cheaper and faster to get yourself a ticket with someone else and pay the extra $100 to fly the pup on board with you.
Good luck in whatever decision you make. You need to contact the other airlines flying near you and see what service they offer.
