As an oil painter, my heart is always left in Maine after a trip. Besides a family lake house on Long Lake, I have made a few plein air painting trips in Maine that were like going to Hawaii for me.
A place many do not venture is the furthest East point of the U.S. What a beautiful area. It's one of the prime "untouched" areas of our country. The coastline is bold with cliffs, such a sight. I painted Lubec, Tide Mill Farm and Cantabella Island (Canada). It's out-of-the-way, but so worth the trip. For a week I drove around looking for my "spot" to paint listening to Luciano - what an experience.
Another beautiful spot for me was Monhigan Island. I went there for a long weekend with another painting friend to find the same untouched beauty. It's so rare to find places like this that have been uncommercialized. Food for an artist's soul.
This summer I'll have to bring my new baby...Trixie. On a leash of course!
