What is everyone doing with their furbaby's topknot?

Sadie's is long, but her hair is fine so it always flops over into her eyes.
She has a clip as well as a barrette.

Is it proper to cut the topknot shorter so it just sticks up, or would this look goofy?

I love her topknot, but it bugs me when it hangs near her food when she eats, etc. If I double the knot, and then put a barrette in it, it still falls out.

Any tips are most appreciated.
