Hi and congratulations on thew puppies so far. You are doing a good job. It is extremely important for the pups to stay warm. The first week, the temp should be 85 degrees where the puppies sleep. If you need to, you can place a blanket over top of the whelping area to keep the heat in. Or use a heating light bulb to help watm them. If they are cold to the touch it is imperative to get them warm as soon as possible. If they are cold and they eat, they will get an upset tummy. WARMTH WARMTH WARMTH is what you want to subscribe to at this time. A light blanket or towel warmed in the dryer will help until you can get the heating pad working. Good luck on the remaining births. If momma doesn't want to stay with the babies you will need to lay there with her to make sure she stays. Sometimes new mom's just need a few days to learn to be good mom's. If she is still having babies, it might be a good idea to place the babies in a basket with a warmed towel in it while she has the next, them place them back with mom in between the births. Be sure and ask if you have any more questions. We are here for you.
