The AKC Companion Animal Recovery is where you sent your information to when he was originally microchipped. It has NOTHING to do with AKC Registration of the dog--two separate things) The AKC CAR was the registry used for the chips before Feb 2005. After Feb 2005 all of that information was supposed to be transferred to the Home Again Registry, which is now the administration site for all of the chips. (I know this is confusing--Home Again is now the manufacturer and register for the chips). So--go to the the Home Again Link , register on their site (its free if you are already registered with AKC CAR prior to Feb 2005) and make sure your info is accurate.
Sorry this isn't making much sense, took me awhile to figure out what was going on when I discovered the discrepancy of the phone numbers on identical looking tags of my dogs. If you put your info in both databases then whichever way someone looks up to find the contact information on your dog, eitherthe tag phone number or by scanning the microchip they will get connected to a registry that has your info. Returning the dog to you is the goal.
