| IMPORTANT Please Read I just had Lily microchipped with the same Home Again brand of chip that Quincy and Jonas are chipped with. But, since February 5th, the AKC Companion Animal Recovery is NOT administering the recovery service anymore. The AKC submitted all the contact info to the Home Again service and the lady on the phone told me that AKC is supposed to maintain that information for the pets lifetime, but they aren't administering the program anymore, and if AKC phone number is called and they don't have your pets info or the info is incorrect the two Recovery Services don't "talk" to each other. I found out the information the AKC sent to Home Again was incorrect--it had old addresses and contact numbers! I know I am rambling here, hope I am making sense, but the phone contact number on the tags is the old AKC number, and they may have old info or none at all! So bottom line: update your pets microchip number with Home Again (there was no charge-nice surprise) and then go back to AKC CAR and make sure their info is up to date. Home Again: http://www.homeagainid.com/ AKC: http://www.akccar.org/ The new contact number to put on your pets ID is: 1-866-738-4324 |

| My puppy came to me microchipped. I gave my vet the chip number and of course my info. He said that not all chips and scanners are compatible.

| microchip compatible From http://www.apapets.com/micro2.htm It's important to know what chip is in your pet. Using the foreign microchip provided by the Banfield Pet Hospital located in Petsmart stores, can be viewed as a deviation of the accepted standard of care. In fact, AVID and Home Again 125 kHz microchips are considered the standard of care in the U.S. and have been placed in over 8 million pets across the United States, resulting in 8,000 lost pets being returned to their families each week. "There are approximately 70,000 highly accurate scanners in place and a system that provides results. With 8,000 lost pets being returned to their families each week, the U.S. has the best system in the world." says Dr. Hannis L. Stoddard III, founder and president of Avid. The incompatibility between scanners and microchips means some micro-chipped animals entering shelters may be treated as unidentified and destroyed or not returned to their family. "Putting lives of our pets at risk is totally unacceptable," said Dr. Hannis L. Stoddard III, "Especially when compatible chips could have been offered," and added, "To protect our pets, we were left with no alternative other than to file a patent infringement suit against a Canadian pet insurance company Pethealth and Allflex, who manufactures their incompatible microchip products."

| From what I read Home Again and Avid are the most popular in the US. http://www.hsus.org/pets/issues_affe...icrochips.html This site from the humane society answers some questions.

| Brad got the Home Again Chip. I make sure he always has the Home Again tag on his collar, in hopes that that will be enough to to get him home to me. |

| Both of the yellow tags say Home Again on them, but the older tag has the old AKC CAR contact number on them, and again, AKC is not administering the site for the Home Again chips anymore. I think it is safer to go to BOTH sites, make sure your info is correct on both (mine wasn't) and then change the contact number to Home Again on any tags your pet might be wearing. I am sure it is just me, but I am thinking of the worst case scenario. It took maybe 10 minutes for me to update all three of my pets on both sites. I only had to pay to register Lily, she was new, if you are already in the system it doesn't cost anything to register on Home Again. (And Lily was only 17.00) |

| I was concerned about this as I had Trevor registered with AKC after Feb. 5. I called my vet to see which brand they used and it is Home Again. Then I called AKC, listened to the menu and hit 0 to speak with an operator. After talking with her, she said the AKC telephone number I have is still good and that Trevor was registered with them. .... I didn't even give her my name or my dog's name. They must have caller ID and pulled it up when I called... that was pretty cool! My confirmation letter I received was dated March 29 saying he was registered. So I'm not going to re-register him with Home Again since he is currently registered with AKC. Thanks for the info. Cyndie Trevor's Mom |

Sorry this isn't making much sense, took me awhile to figure out what was going on when I discovered the discrepancy of the phone numbers on identical looking tags of my dogs. If you put your info in both databases then whichever way someone looks up to find the contact information on your dog, eitherthe tag phone number or by scanning the microchip they will get connected to a registry that has your info. Returning the dog to you is the goal.

Okay, you're totally confusing me. Trevor is registered with AKC CAR and it was after Feb. 5,2005.... March 29, 2005. So why would AKC CAR tell me that the microchip is registered with them and that the 800 number I have on my tag is correct if you're saying that AKC CAR no longer does this for HomeAgain chips?
