No, you don't have to. I personally do like to register my pets just because I'm able to. I also like to have a copy of their pedigree. Doesn't really matter since they are just pets, but I just like having it.

One thing about registering your dog, is that it is proof the dog belongs to you. If someone tried to claim your dog was theirs you have papers that say otherwise...and DNA testing could be done to prove it the papers belong to the dog.
