I know how you feel. A couple of weeks ago I started to notice this mangy stray cat that would hang around my office building. Then one day I noticed that its face looked like it had been half torn off or something. So we called animal control and they came and got it. They said that there was an abscess in its mouth that burst so that's why his face looked so messed up. We told them that if they were going to put the cat to sleep then we wanted them to call us. They said they would 24 hours in advance so we could figure something out.

On another note, the other night I noticed a kitten running under some parked car in front of my house. There are soooo many stray cat's in my neighborhood...it's really sad. About an hour later I left my house and saw something in the street. I pulled over and went to look. It was the poor kitten. He had been hit by a car and left there. I got close to see if it was still alive and if I could help him. Sorry if this is too graphic but literally his eyeball had popped out. I freaked out and felt so bad for him. I didn't really know what to do so I called animal control and left a message. The poor kitty was gone in the morning. I'm not sure if they came and picked him up or someone else did. You should definitely call animal control. They are really there to help.
