Besides the shedding, the other BIG issue is that you MUST be prepared to either keep them in air-conditioning during hot weather or watch them constantly to make sure they are not too hot. This is a serious issue, many pugs have died from heat-stroke. I see you are in Norman, so your weather is like mine. Mine are outside a lot (they hate being inside all the time), but I watch them very closely. You have to make sure they have plenty of water, shade, and are not playing or running around in the heat. Heat-stroke can happen so quickly.
Once you are committed to providing them the care they need, and brushing often to reduce shedding, you are there. They will show you unconditional love, and are sooo cute (although some people think they are ugly, I cannot understand this). They snore when they sleep, and are great snugglers. Some do tend to overeat, so you may need to watch this. I will whisper this here, but pugs are actually my favorite breed of all. Feel free to pm me if you ever have questions I can help with. | My brother-in-law has a pug. They live in Arizona and the heat thing has been an issue. They have to be very careful that the pug doesn't become over-heated. Other than that he is great dog. He can be very naughty at times, he loves to steal bottle caps of any kind. But he has a great personality. |
