I wanted a second yorkie but was afraid Rickles would never accept another dog, especially since he and I had been attact by a st.beanard (150 lbs) a couple of years ago and ever since he has been terrified of other dogs. This dog trainer has been working with us to help him and I asked her the advice you are asking for and she told me to not look with my heart but with my head. She told me to get the most outgoing puppy in the litter. Well, that is exactly what I did. When I brought him home Rickles went nuts. I put the puppy in the bathroom with a little bed, etc. and put a baby gate up. The puppy curled up and went to sleep even though Rickles was standing at the gate barking at him like crazy. Finally, in the middle of the night I went and picked up the puppy and the three of us slept in the recliner together. The next day was a little better and by the 3rd day things had really settled down. Gleason has been with us for 6 months and they are so close. They even groom each other. It turned out even better than I had hoped.
