yes canned pumpkin works great! make sure it is PURE pumpkin.. no spice... give him about a tsp if you can (Layla hates it) and this should help get things moving... he is clearly constipated since you said he has Tried to poop but can't.. poor little man... give that a shot and if it doestn' work you should call your vet.
